Last February, Tyler started complaining about his feet and ankles hurting after practice.
Normal soreness, I thought. He's 11. He plays travel soccer.
But it didn't go away.
By March, he was limping after games.
By April, he was asking to sit out during practice.
By May, I found him crying in his room because his feet hurt so badly he couldn't sleep.
That's when I took him to the pediatrician.
The doctor watched him walk, pressed on his feet, and gave us the diagnosis: growing pains.
The solution: Rest, ice, ibuprofen. Give it 6-8 weeks.
Six to eight weeks. Right in the middle of spring season.
Tyler's face completely fell.
